BIBY 2009

In ICYB 2009 on June 11, 2009 at 8:35 pm

Annika Arting from the Faroe Islands convinced the participants of ICYB 2009 with her candidate for the Booksellers´ International Book of the Year: The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson!

An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time.
The narrator of The Gargoyle is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows. He crashes into a ravine and suffers horrible burns over much of his body. As he recovers in a burn ward, undergoing the tortures of the damned, he awaits the day when he can leave the hospital and commit carefully planned suicide—for he is now a monster in appearance as well as in soul…

All international publishers who are interested in this award are more than welcome to contact ICYB President Susanne Meinel at meinel@buchnrw.de.

ICYB 2009 in Frankfurt

In ICYB 2009 on April 7, 2009 at 10:49 am

The 52nd ICYB took place from the 24th until the 30th of May 2009 in Frankfurt, at the Frankfurt Bookselling School and brought together young booksellers from six European countries. The theme of this year’s congress was ‘E-motion@l bookselling’ and Miriam Feldmann, Susanne Meinel and Jennifer Orth have put together an excellent all encompassing program. In short it contained:

– The German book trade in figures
– E-books and electronic publishing
– The E-book market and its demands on booksellers
-Sales training by groups
-Presentation with workshop by the Frankfurt Book Fair
-Group exploration of various bookshops in Frankfurt
-To Koch, Neff & Volckmar, a book wholesaler in Stuttgart, guided tour and presentation
-To the Offices of Frankfurt Book Fair
-To the the German Literary Archive

The full program can be found at ICYB 2009 as well as general information on the ICYB .

All the different aspects of emotianal bookselling made up the program and formed a wonderful, interesting and atmospheric week: exploring Frankfurt bookstores and their approaches to e-books, a sales training illustrating how emotional selling can be and of course many, many speeches teaching young booksellers a lot about their job.
